Lions International Youth Exchange Report
Distinct 27-D1 Cabinet Meeting - October 11, 2009

Introduction
At the last 27-D1 Cabinet meeting we reported on the success of our program which was in full session at the time of the meeting. We are now soliciting funds from our districts Lions and Lioness clubs for the recommended amount of $2.00/member to finance this year's program. $2.00/member allows us to administer this program which involves paying our districts share of the Youth Exchange camp-related fees and offering several scholarships to our own districts youth. We are now also able to offer host family grants to help absorb the additional costs of hosting a youth thanks to the generosity of our districts clubs. All the funds collected are used only for direct youth exchange related costs. There are no indirect fees; every person involved in this program is a volunteer including the camp councilors.

Currently, we've received requests for 3 youth exchange scholarship applications from our own districts youth (we can accept 5-8) and anticipate 50-60 incoming YE applications. Our district is also responsible for hosting at least 5 of these incoming youth.

A new addition to the program is a District 27-D1 Lions Youth Exchange Website.

Our new website contains all the applications necessary for participating in this program including:
• A description of the program
• District 27-D1 Youth Exchange Scholarship Application
• District 27-D1 Host Family Grant Application
• District 27-D1 Youth Exchange Hand Book

Please pass this web site address to anyone that might be interested in this program. A link has also been requested on the District 27-D1 website.

Finances/Budget
So far this year, we've solicited $1166 from 13 district lion and lioness clubs and have carryover funds of $5083 accumulated from past years. Our anticipate expenses are ~$6700 which include the $1700 camp fee, 5-8 scholarships ($500-$800) and 5 host family grants ($200).

There are currently 4 volunteers on the District 27-D1 youth exchange committee; Terry Miller - Pardeeville, Dave Peltier - Beloit Noon, Rob Perkins - Cuba City and Ben August - Token Creek.

It's a pleasure serving on this committee and participating in a program that satisfies the first objective of the Lions "To create and foster a spirit of understanding among peoples of the world".
